Normandy Pictures
Going to put some sort of image gallery here. Just a few quick pictures of Normandy. Clicking on a picture will bring you to the full size picture.
View from Omaha Beach. Red Arrows point to an opening into the cliff fortifications. Notice how the water goes right to the base of the cliff when the tide is in.
Normandy American Cemetary and Memorial in the Summer.
Another view of Normandy Cemetary. Notice how you can see the English Channel right from the Cemetary.
These pictures are from Arromanches Les Bains which is right on the western edge of the Gold Invasion Beach. What I find facinating is that this is just a normal day on the beach for these people. They don’t seem to be concerned that the remains of a Mulberry Harbor litter their beach. I’m glad that they don’t mind the litter, if they did it probably would have been removed 50 years ago. Perhaps the DANGER signs should be in French.
If you look closely you can see someone inside one.
It is quite a busy beach. Good shot of what’s left in the water.
Here is a google map link to the beach. If you zoom in you can see the Mulberry’s in the harbor.
